Continuing Ceramics
WHAT TO EXPECT
Welcome to Continuing Ceramics, a recurring monthly pottery class that introduces different projects, forms, and techniques to strengthen your skills as you create a unique body of work.
This class is perfect for ceramicists who've already taken our Beginner Pottery class or a similar introductory class at another studio. Our monthly projects are approachable for all skill levels, so whether you're a beginner or an experienced potter, you'll learn something new and finish with a beautiful collection of pieces.
Throughout Continuing Ceramics, you’ll develop your creative problem solving, build muscle memory, and grow your confidence and abilities to bring your dream projects to life.
Like any art form, consistent practice is key. That's why this class also includes access to our Open Studio time on Thursdays. Open Studio is a great place to practice what you learned in class, get extra feedback from our teachers, and meet fellow students.
Upcoming Themes
July - Exaggerated Forms
Vases, Pitchers, Bottles
We'll focus on techniques used to create different functional forms such as vases, decanters, pitchers, and bottles. Making these exaggerated forms will expand your skills with tools and your control over the clay.
August - Outdoor Pottery
Watering cans, planter pots, garden decorations
We'll create pottery that can be incorporated into gardens and other outdoor spaces. You'll combine handbuilding and wheel-throwing techniques while incorporating natural textures and patterns into your work.
October & November - Dinner Sets
plates, bowls, cups
During this two-month theme, we'll design and create a cohesive dinner set, including plates, bowls, and cups. This theme will help you refine your precision and consistency while throwing multiple matching forms.
December - Specialized Bowls
Ramen & soup bowls, small saucers
We'll end the year focusing on specific types of bowls used for serving ramen, soup, and phở. You'll learn how to get the most volume out of your bowls and alter the forms to improve their functionality.
What to Bring
Please be sure to dress in comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting clay on!
