Workshop Description
Join us for a morning all about clay at Tracy Aviary's Nature Center! You'll start by learning about how the clay beneath our feet shapes local ecosystems, taught by an Aviary ecologist. We'll dive into the role of clay in Salt Lake City soils, how it affects water retention and plant communities, and the habitats birds rely on.
Then it's time to get your hands dirty with some clay! You'll create your own flock of small birds, learning basic handbuilding techniques as you sculpt your favorites. Once you've shaped your birds, you'll have time to carve in small details and paint with underglaze to add color to your sculptures.
We'll handle the firing and final glazing, with pieces ready for pickup at Workshop SLC's studio in about 4 weeks.
