Oil SUPPLy LIST

Every artist has their own supply preferences, favorite colors, brands etc. This list is complied with a goal of getting you everything you need to start this Sight size figure painting class!

  • Oil Paints - Winsor and Newton, Michael Harding, and Old Holland are what I'd recommend, but start at whatever price point you feel comfortable with. We'll be using a limited pallette

-Titanium or Zinc White (I prefer Titanium)

-Yellow Ochre Medium

-Vermillion (I like Michael Harding or Rembrandt for about 20 dollars

-Cadmium Red Medium

-French Ultra Marine Blue

-Ivory Black

  • Pallette- Can be disposable or reusable. Preferably of mid tone and smooth surface. I like a classic wooden pallette. You can get a small one at Michael's for under 10 dollars.

  • Paper towels

  • 18×24 Canvas- Cotton duck or linen

  • Palette knife- Preferably with rounded edges

  • Brushes- I like Filbert Hog's hair brushes. It gives a good broad stroke with soft edges unlike a round or straight. Have an array of sizes from 0.00 to around 20 or 24. The sizes I use most, and have most of, are 2, 4, and 6.

  • Turpentine- Used for washes and thin paint mixtures

  • Medium- This can be Liquin or Gamsol, or whatever you'd like to experiment with to make your paint flow

  • Odorless Paint thinner- Anything to clean brushes and palettes

  • Oil tins- small containers that often clip to the pallette side and hold turpentine and mediums.
